వాల్ట్ విట్మన్—2

                వాల్ట్ విట్మన్ బానిసత్వాన్ని ద్వేషించాడు .equilibrium కావాలి అన్నాడు .అది కూడా స్నేహపూర్వకం గా వుండాలి .ఇక్కడే ఒక చక్కని కవిత రాశాడు ”I am the poet of slaves and of the master of the slaves —-I go with the slaves of the earth equally with the masters —and i will stand between the masters and the slaves —Entering into both so that both shall understood me alike ”అని తన  మనసును  బయట   పెట్టాడు .

”I”అనటం విట్మన్ తో నే అమెరికన్ కవిత్వం లో ప్రారంభ మైంది .జనం తో మమైక్యం చెందిన భావన   . కలిగించాడు

అందుకే ”  he cultivated superb   calm character to meliorate personal upheavals ” అని ప్రశంసలు పొందాడు .తన ముఖ్య కార్యక్రమం “”great contribution of the New BIble ”అని ప్రకటించాడు .జేమ్స్ రాజు కొత్త bible రాసినట్లు ,తానూ కొత్త నీరు తేవాలని భావించాడు .అందుకనే తన గడ్డిపరకలు అనే కవితా సంపుటిలో ”read these leaves in the open air season of every year of your life of all nations

and specially tou.s. poets most need poets –since political leaders were failing miserably to hold the nation to gether ,poets alone held the key to social cohesion .The presidents shall not be their common refery so much as their poets shall .The poet is the orbitrator of the diverse and he is the key .He is the eqallizer of the age and land he supplies what wants supplying and checks what wants checking .”అని కవికి వున్న సామాజిక బాధ్యతను గుర్తు చేశాడు .ప్రజా సమస్యల్ని కవులు చాలా ప్రతిభావంతం గా పాకులాడి దృష్టికి తేగలరు అని ఆయన భావన .

   అతని గడ్డిపరకలు కవిత్వం లో ప్రజాస్వామ్య ద్రుష్టి ముందు చూపు వున్నాయి .అందుకే సామాజిక ,వర్గ ,మత ,సెక్స్ ,వగైరా లకున్న అడ్డంకులను సవాలు చేశాడు .అంతకు ముందెవ్వరు వీటిపై ద్రుష్టి పెట్ట లేదు .ఇతనే ఆద్యుడు .1950లో   మాత్రమే సాంఘిక అడ్డంకుల్ని తొలగించింది అమెరికన్ ప్రభుత్వం .అంతే విట్మన్ కవి ప్రభుత్వానికి మార్గ దర్శనం చేశాడు అని తెలుస్తోంది. అతనికి పూర్తి సమానత్వం కావాలి .అదే ఆయన ధ్యేయం .అతనిలో దక్షిణ ,ఉత్తర ప్రాంత జనులు ఒక్కటే అందుకే అందరిని దృష్టిలో పెట్టుకొనే ”నేను ”అని అందరిని సమాన భావనతో చూశాడు ..

                       నేటివ్ అమెరికన్స్ పై portraits వేశాడు ..ఆ మధ్యనే వచ్చిన యురోపియన్ల పైన ,ఆఫ్రికన్ అమెరికన్ ల పైన వేశాడు .తనను బానిస గా భావించు కొన్నాడు .”I am the hounded slave —I wine at the bite of dogs –Helland despair are up on me ”అని వాళ్ల బాధ తన బాధ గా చెప్పుకొన్నాడు .ఇదే మన శ్రీ శ్రీ కి ఆదర్శం అయింది .కవితామయ స్వర్గాన్ని ఊహించాడు (ఉటోపియా )అందులో ధనవంతులు ,పేదలు ,అధికారులు ,సామాన్యులు అందరు అన్యోన్యం గా వుండాలి ఇదే democratic I”’.  సాంగ్ అఫ్ మై సెల్ఫ్ కవితలో ”of every hue and trade and rank ,of every caste ,and religion –Not merely of the New World but of Africa ,Europe or Asia  a wandering savage —A farmer ,a mechanist or artist ,a gentleman ,sailor ,lover or quaker ”అందరు ,అన్ని దేశాల వాళ్ళు ,అన్ని వృత్తుల వాళ్ళు తన వాళ్ళే నన్నారు .దీన్నే శ్రీ శ్రీకుమ్మరి కమ్మరి   , దాగలి గొడ్డలికట్టీ సుత్తీ  సమస్త వృత్తుల వాళ్ళు తన వాళ్ళే నన్నాడు .

శ్రీకి ప్రేరణ విట్మన్. .తనను పిట్టలదోరగా ,న్యాయవాదిగా వైద్యునిగా మతాదికారిగా పోల్చుకొన్నాడు .

                      తనను చూసి అమెరికా సంపూర్ణ స్వాతంత్ర్యాన్ని నేర్చుకోవాలని ఆశ పడ్డాడు . ”  The proof of the poet is that his country absorbs him as affectionately as he has absorbed ”అని నమ్మాడు .కవి తన దేశం తో మమైక మయినట్లు దేశం కూడా కవిలో అయిక్యమవ్వాలని అతని సుందరస్వప్నం అతను ఆశించి నట్లే అది నెరవేరింది .ఎమెర్సన్ ,రోసేట్టే ,స్విన్బర్న్ ,మొదలైన వారు ముందుగా ,విట్మన్ ను అర్ధం చేసుకో లేక పోయినా ఇప్పుడు పూర్తిగా మారి అతని కవిత్వానికి పట్టాభి షేకం చేయటం మొదలు పెట్టారు .అరచేతితో సూర్యుని తేజాన్ని ఆపలేము అని తెలుసు కొన్నారు .””I greet you at the beginning of a great career ”అన్నాడు ఎమెర్సన్ .”Your poetry has the best merits ,namely of fortifying and encouraging ”అనీ అన్నాడాయన

                      మిగిలిన వారు ”It had attemppted to abolish all narrowness of vision ,immediately became subject to narrow interpretations .his begign qualities are very exemplary ”అని కితాబు ఇచ్చారు .గుడ్ గ్రే పోఎట్ అని ప్రశంసించారు .

‘                లింకన్ అంతే వీర అభిమానం విట్మన్ కు .రోజూ ప్రెసిడెంట్ లింకన్ ఆఫీసు కు వెళ్ళటం చూశే వాడు .లి౦కన్ ను హోం spun అని ,కెప్టెన్ అనీ గొప్పగా ఆరాధించేవాడు .”captain o captain ”అని లింకన్ పై అద్భుతమైన కవిత రాసి తన భక్తిని ఆరాధనా భావాన్ని వ్యక్త పరిచాడు .

race and caste విషయం లో conservative stand తీసుకొన్నాడు .

Witman is the master of language experimentation అని పేరు పొందాడు .తన కవిత్వం గురించి ”No one can know leaves of grass who  judges it piecemeal ,–do not take the trouble to examine what they started out to criticize ,to judge a man from his own stand point ,to even find out what that stand point is ”అని  విస్శ్లేషించాడు  .ఇది స్వంత     డబ్బా  కాడు    .స్వయం  వ్యక్తీకరణ  మాత్రమే .
